Hi, new travelers or whoever new to exploring. I am Thai who had lived in the South of Thailand, moved to BKK 2 years ago. Today I will recommend easy and simple ways to get to the city from the airports or to transport to different places.
First of all, there are 2 main international airports from aboard to Thailand.
- Suvanabhumi airport - the main international airports which are various routes from almost around the world; Europe, America, Oceania, Asia, etc. This airport is located in Samut Prakan province, closed to BKK.
- Donmuang airport - the second international airport but less routes, normally the most flights route from Asia; Japan, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, and so on. Especially for low-cost airlines.
- How to get to the city?
I will recommend easy and convenient way.
- from Suvanabhumi airport, take Airport Rail link (Red line you can see above image) which it can transit to BTS (skytrain) or MRT (subway) that nearest your hostel and wherever.
- from Donmuang international airport, take shuttle bus A1 or A2 to BTS skytrain "Mo chit" station or MRT subway "Jatujuk station" (same place to get out from the bus). The bus schedule will be about 15 mins. It takes only 20-40 minutes to the station (depends on traffic jam). The price is 30 baht (around 1$: 2 July 2019)
- noted: if you are not in a hurry, bus number A2 actually can take you the victory monument station which there is a main bus routes to many different place and also BTS skytrain "Victory monument" station. It takes soooo longer time than getting out at BTS "Mo chit" station because of traffic jam. but just your option to save money.
- bus number A3 takes you to Lumpini
- bus numbe A4 takes you to Sanamluang (near Wat Phra Kaew; Phra kaew temple, the main famous and beautiful temple)noted: to get into the temple, only allows no short pants, no slippery, no sleeveless. but in case you wear those, there is a rental long pants at the gate of temple then you can return when you get out. - from Donmuang airport to Suvanabhumi airport, free shuttle bus get on at the Donmuang aitport inside, ask for tourist information. for Outside of the airport will be charged on bus.
- To get to the main train station in case to go to another provinces; "Hua lumpong train station" which can take MRT subway (blue line) to Hua lumpong subway station.
- How to buy BTS skytrain ticket
- top-up ticket, buy from the counter.
- single ticket, buy from the counter or ticket machine which allows only coins( 1, 5, and 10 baht)
- How to get MRT subway and Airport Rail link ticket
It same as BTS skytrain, you can buy from a counter or ticket machine. But MRT subway allows cash as well.
- To transport with a bus (pay on board)
there will be a conductor to get your transportation cost and give you a small paper ticket. To transport with bus is cheaper than subway or skytrain but it takes long time because of traffic jam.
- Another faster transportation, motorcycle.
- Boats (very cheap, only 4 baht)
- Taxi (there are many honest taxis, but can't deny that there might be some of them trying to trick or rip you off)
